South African Animal Cards

Series of 6  Animal Cards with bold and colourful scenes depicting wildlife native to South Africa.  Available to buy in my shop

Subsaharan Africa is home to game reserves, natural attractions, and the huge variety of wildlife. Greeting cards series featuring some of the most well known and loved birds and mammals in South African.

Some of the most iconic prints and patterns are derived from the patterns found on wild animals from the African continent. Leopard print, zebra print and even giraffe prints are used in a variety of contexts such as fashion and interiors. I like the idea that these prints communicate something of the Animals they have been inspired by. I am also drawn the vast open landscapes and the dramatic light that can be seen in South African Game reserves.

The broad range of wild animals reflect my thoughts on the wonder of this strange and beautiful planet we live on and all its inhabitants, even just some of those found in one continent.

Helmeted guineafowl live in dry open grassland spending most of their time on the ground, searching for food. They do have the ability to fly short distances when threatened, and sleep among the lower branches of trees at night.

Cheetahs are faster than any other land animal in the world. They can reach speeds of up to 113km per hour and can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 3 seconds.

Weighing as much as 6.6 tons and measuring up to 10 ft. at the shoulder, African elephants are the world’s largest land mammal.

Every zebra has a pattern of black and white stripes that is unique. Foals are able to recognise their mothers from their stripes, as well as by scent and call.

Despite being incredibly long, a giraffe’s neck is too short to reach the ground.

Lions live in called groups of about 15, called prides. Being among the most social of the big cat family. They appear to enjoy being in these groups and regularly show each other lots of affection.
