Peruvian Animal Cards
Series of 6 Peruvian Animal Cards with colourful scenes depicting wildlife native to Peru. Available to buy in my shop
This selection of card designs was inspired by a trip to Peru in 2017 where I stayed in a small village in the Inca Heartland on the edge of the Amazon Jungle. I was surrounded by wildlife, exotic plants and immersed in my creative practice. Under the blazing sun all colours sang, the iridescent feathers of hummingbirds glistening as they hovered among the flowers. The occasional flash of a Blue Morpho Butterfly against the green leaves. Peru is home to a wealth of incredible wildlife. I have tried to capture some of the magic of Peru in my designs.
Squirrel monkeys are among the cleverest monkeys. They also have excellent eyesight and have the ability to distinguish colours. This enables them to quickly identify different fruit among dense vegetation in the jungle.
Hummingbirds are the only types of birds that are known to have sustain long periods of hovering. They can also fly backwards and change direction very quickly. They can even fly upside down.
Despite the fact Toco Toucans spend much of the time in trees, they aren’t very good at flying. Toucans mainly travel among trees by hopping. When they do fly they only travel short distances.
Blue Morpho Butterflies are among the largest in the world, having a wingspan of up to 20 cm. The top of their wings are bright blue and the under side is dull brown. Helping them to blend in to the background, or to dazzle and confuse predators with a bright flash as they fly.
