Watercolour Paintings inspired by 18th century Indian Textiles.

I made a series of four paintings in response to the origins of the 17th Century French textile house ‘Toile de Jouy’ whose designs were heavily influenced by traditional Indian textiles. I composed a series of scenes representing the national symbols of India. Encompassing the serenity, beauty and stillness of a pre industrial age.

A Peacock and a Peahen, a courting pair surrounded by fruit trees. The Mango Tree a symbol of eternal love and fertility. The pink Lotus flower traditionally symbolizing Purity of the soul, and the path to liberation from materialism.
